In-Person Animal Communication Sessions in Portland, Oregon
Biology Degree in Animal Behavior · 20+ Years Practice · 1,000+ Sessions Since 2008 · Trained by Renowned Animal Communicator Karen Anderson · Portland, OR Native
If you're looking for an animal communicator in Portland, Oregon who can come to you — to your home, your barn, your backyard — you've found her. Michelle Hawk has been offering in-person animal communication sessions throughout the greater Portland area and Columbia River Gorge since 2008. Whether you have a dog, a cat, a horse, or a house full of animals, Michelle comes to where your pet is most comfortable and most themselves.
What Is an In-Person Animal Communication Session?
An in-person animal communication session works exactly the same way as a virtual session — Michelle connects with your animal energetically, translates their thoughts and feelings, and works through your questions one by one. The difference is that Michelle is physically present with you and your pet, which can be especially valuable for horses and barn animals, households with multiple animals, pets who are aging or unwell, and situations where hands-on energy healing is part of the work.

Who In-Person Sessions Are Ideal For
While most of Michelle's sessions are virtual — available to clients worldwide via Zoom — in-person sessions are a great option for some situations:
Horses and Barn Animals
Horses in particular benefit from in-person visits. Michelle comes to your barn or property in the greater Portland area and Columbia River Gorge, and can work with multiple horses in a single session. She has worked with horse trainers, riding instructors, and horse owners throughout the Willamette Valley and Gorge for over fifteen years, addressing training resistance, rider relationships, behavioral challenges, health concerns, and emotional wellbeing.
In 2010, I met a well-known horse trainer in Hillsboro, OR, who hired me for a full day to speak with all the horses in the barn. One horse in particular was working through a lot of emotion regarding some recent life changes, and it was impacting him significantly. I was able not only to help him and his trainer come to a new understanding, but he also responded extremely well to hands-on energy healing. After that initial session, the trainer hired me several more times to help him and other horses throughout the years.
“Michelle, I want to tell you that Luke is a totally different horse now. He is calm and relaxed when we ride him. Your work was amazing! I would love for you to come out for another session for Luke. It has helped him so much. Thank you. ”
Multiple Animals in One Household
If you have several pets and want to check in with all of them, an in-person session can be a great way to connect with them all at once. Michelle can move through your home and spend time with each animal in their own space, which allows for a more natural and unhurried conversation with each one.
End-of-Life and Palliative Support
Some of the most meaningful in-person sessions Michelle offers are for animals approaching the end of their lives. Being physically present for these sessions — sitting with you and your pet in your home — gives the work a depth of intimacy that is different from virtual support. If your beloved animal is nearing their final days and you want to make sure they're ready, to ask what they need for comfort, and to share your love and gratitude before they go, an in-person session allows that conversation to unfold at whatever pace it needs to.
One of my most memorable in-person sessions in Portland took place several years ago, with a dog who was in the final stages of her life. Her family reached out to me when her health suddenly took a turn, and they wanted to confirm that it was time to help her go. I was able to squeeze an in-person session in my schedule the following day, so I went to their house and got to share this dog’s final messages for her family. Everyone was crying (myself included) and the dog was simply overflowing with love, gratitude and care for her family. The people told me after we finished our session that they had scheduled an in-home euthanasia for an hour later, and were now feeling clear and peaceful about helping their dog to make her crossing.
Energy Healing Alongside Communication
In-person sessions also allow Michelle to offer hands-on energy healing work — Reiki and Shamanic energy work — directly to your animal if that is part of what they need. While energy work can naturally occur in virtual sessions, many animals enjoy receiving hands-on healing work. For animals dealing with physical pain, emotional trauma, or energetic imbalances, the combination of communication and energy healing in a single visit can be profoundly supportive.
“Thank you, Michelle, for putting your hands on my horse. I know your work has helped her greatly. ”

What Clients Say About In-Person Sessions
“Michelle, I cannot thank you enough. I am working on talking to Matti about what we discussed in our session with you. I am filled with joy to say that today we counter cantered!!!!! Big hugs to you and can’t wait to have you meet some of my clients and come back out again.”
“I was interested in animal communicators and wanted to see how Michelle worked, so I asked her to come out and talk to my ten horses. I was impressed how well Michelle would ask my questions and how persistent she was with getting an answer, even when one of my horses was hesitant at first. My favorite part of the experience was how the horses would line up to take their turns talking to Michelle. Their eyes bright, heads wagging, they each seemed to really enjoy the experience in their own unique ways. I was super impressed.”
“Michelle, I noticed a difference in Gypsy the minute we walked in the door. As the days passed I realized the differences were increasing and our relationship was improving. Our relationship has improved so much in so many ways. There is actual communication between us now.”

Frequently Asked Questions About In-Person Sessions
How far in advance should I book an in-person session?
In-person sessions require more scheduling notice than virtual sessions due to travel coordination. Michelle recommends reaching out at least two weeks in advance for home visits, barn visits or multiple-animal sessions. Email Michelle directly to check availability.
Can you come to my barn or stable outside Portland?
Yes — Michelle regularly visits barns and stables in the greater Portland area, Willamette Valley, and Columbia River Gorge. For locations further afield, additional travel time and fees apply. Email Michelle to discuss your location before booking.
Do my pets need to be confined or restrained during the session?
No — in fact it's better if your animals are free to move naturally in their own space during the session. Cats may wander in and out of the room, dogs may come and go, horses can move freely in their stall or paddock. Michelle does not need your animal to sit still or be held. The energetic connection works regardless of where they are in the space.
Can you do energy healing during an in-person session?
Yes. In-person sessions allow Michelle to offer hands-on Reiki and energy healing work directly to your animal, which is not available in virtual sessions. If you'd like to include energy healing, mention this when you email to book so Michelle can plan for the appropriate session length.
What if I also have animals who have passed on — can they be included in an in-person session?
Yes — Michelle can connect with animals who have passed on during an in-person session, just as she does in virtual sessions. If you would like to include a beloved animal who has crossed over alongside your living pets, simply mention this when you book. Michelle recommends waiting at least one month after a pet's passing for the clearest possible connection.
Do you offer in-person sessions for cats and dogs, or only horses?
In-person sessions are available for all species — dogs, cats, horses, birds, rabbits, and any other animals in your home or on your property. While horses and barn animals are the most common reason clients specifically request in-person visits, many Portland-area pet owners with dogs and cats choose in-person sessions for the energy healing component or simply because they prefer the in-person experience.
